Maxine Waters for president?

Speculation is swirling over a possible 2020 presidential run by Rep. Maxine Waters’ (D.-Calif.), one of President Donald Trump’s most vocal critics. Waters is scheduled to headline an event in New Hampshire this weekend, raising eyebrows in political circles.

According to WMUR, Waters will be featured at a picnic fundraiser for the Strafford County Democratic Committee held at the Miller Farm in New Durham.

Although Waters, considered a leader of the movement within Congress to “resist” President Trump, might be considering a 2020 presidential bid, her coffers are nearly empty due to a $100,000 debt to her daughter who ran an endorsement mailer operation for Waters’ campaigns.

Despite her elevated profile, Waters has only received a little over $20,000 in individual contributions to her campaign this year.

Waters’ campaign committee, Citizens for Waters, reported receiving just $12,600 in individual contributions during the second quarter of this year, and $9,508.79 in the first quarter, totaling $22,108.79 in individual contributions in 2017.

The campaign has relied heavily on contributions from political action committees, reporting $2,500 from PACs during the first quarter and $99,500 during the second quarter.
